MDV – Local public transport in Central Germany
Within the MDV (Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund) network you can use the train, S-Bahn, tram and bus with just one ticket, and easily switch between different modes of transport – no matter where you bought your MDV ticket or how often you want to switch.
The MDV is the public transport network for Central Germany and covers the train, S-Bahn, tram and bus services provided by 13 different transport companies. Standardised tickets, comprehensive service offerings, coordinated schedules and information, and joint services with the partner transit companies all help move MDV passengers forward faster.
The network covers the cities of Leipzig and Halle, as well as the districts of Saalekreis, North Saxony, Leipzig greater area, Altenburger Land and Burgenlandkreis.
The MDV Nord area, however, includes the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Wittenberg as well as the city of Dessau-Roßlau, but the MDV ticket is only valid on the train and S-Bahn here.
Ticket options
You can travel by train, S-Bahn, tram and bus with one MDV ticket and change between modes of transport - no matter where you bought your ticket or how often you want to get on and off.
Please note: In the MDV Nord area, which includes the Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Wittenberg districts as well as the city of Dessau-Roßlau, the MDV ticket is only valid on the train and S-Bahn. You need another ticket to travel on the trams and buses within this area.
The MDV ticket price depends on how many zones you want to travel through, including the zones you start and end in. Each tariff zone has a different price bracket.

The conductors on board will check whether you are travelling with a valid ticket. If you are found without a valid ticket, you will have to pay a higher fare and prove your identity by showing an official document.
Deutschlandticket
The Deutschlandticket (subscription) is valid throughout Germany for all local transport, that means all regular buses, all local trains (2nd class) RB/RE/IRE, all underground an suburban trains (2nd class) as well as all trams. It is not valid on long-distance trains (ICE, IC) and long-distance buses.

Ticket purchase
You can purchase MDV tickets
from ticket machines at stops, stations and in vehicles
from the bus driver in regional and small urban transport
in transport company service points
in retail shops and selected travel agencies
Single tickets, 4-trip tickets and 24-hours tickets bought in advance must be validated at the ticket validation machine on the platform (train/S-Bahn) or inside the vehicle (tram/bus) before you start your journey. Single tickets or 24-hours tickets bought from ticket machines in vehicles will already be validated, 4-trip tickets must be validated. ATTENTION: Tickets from the ticket machines in the vehicles of HAVAG must be validated.
In addition you can buy your ticket via the apps MOOVME, DB Navigator, FAIRTIQ and LeipzigMOVE. These apps are available in German and English and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Children

Adults accompanying children and groups of children must have a valid ticket. Children aged between 6 and 14 can travel at a reduced rate using a children‘s ticket.
People with reduced mobility
free transport in the entire MDV network
A valid disability pass with supplement and a valid token is an acceptable proof of eligibility. Companions of severely disabled people travel free of charge if their eligibility is apparent from the Severe Disability pass (with “B” mark).
Alternatively, a dog may accompany a disabled person instead of or in addition to a human companion.
Bicycles
on all local trains within the MDV network

folding bicycles in transport bags or electric pedal scooters and bicycles for children
Bicycles can be taken along free of charge on the route network of Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) from Monday to Saturday, 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and all day on Sunday.
Please note: Bicycles and bicycle trailers may only be taken on board if the capacity of the vehicle allows for it. Riders are not entitled to free transport of bicycles.

dogs and small animals that cannot be transported in crates (Please note: Dogs may only be brought onto public transport if they are wearing a muzzle and kept on a short lead).
bulky objects and pieces of luggage which cannot be carried easily.
bicycles in tram and bus in Halle and the districts of North Saxony, Leipzig greater area and Altenburger Land.
