MDV GmbH, from its head office in Leipzig, acts on behalf of its shareholders in local transit and government/administration with the aim of providing passengers with an attractive range of transit services.

The constructive cooperation of all partners in the network ensures attractive local public transit (ÖPNV) under the MDV umbrella brand and initiates development processes for future improvement of public transit services in Central Germany.

The Transit Network Area

The transit area in which MDV GmbH operates extends proportionately across the three federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. It comprises the two metropolitan cities of Halle and Leipzig as well as the districts of Leipzig, North Saxony, the Saale District, the Burgenland District and the Altenburger Land District.

Since 15 December 2019, the districts of Wittenberg and Anhalt-Bitterfeld and the city of Dessau-Rosslau have been part of the MDV. In this specific area – MDV Nord – MDV tickets are only valid for train and S-Bahn.

The total area of the MDV transit network covers 11,300 km². Around 2.1 million people in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia benefit from the integrated public transit services in the network.

Local public transit in the MDV network area covers 80 million timetable kilometres every year. That’s five times around the world per day. By offering this service package and the associated customer orientation, MDV occupies a leading position in the public transit landscape in Germany.

The Network Fares

The tickets are valid for S-Bahn (urban fast trains), local trains, buses and trams in the above-mentioned area. In the MDV Nord area only for S-Bahn and regular trains. With the so-called Verbundticket (Network ticket), any passenger can switch flexibly between the individual means of transport or in some cases even interrupt their journey. The fare is calculated on the basis of the fare zones travelled. Passengers who only travel occasionally by bus and train can choose from single tickets, day passes and 4-rides-passes. For regular use of public transit, there are weekly and monthly tickets or the attractive ABO subscriptions from all ticket sales points in the MDV network.

Mobile and cashless tickets can also be booked with easy.GO, the mobile app for bus and train journeys. It also allows for locating bus stops or obtaining information on fare prices and connections in the transit network area.

The MDV Infomobile, which travels the entire network area, offers personal and comprehensive mobility advice on location. The current tour schedule is available online here.

In case of questions about the various tickets or the fare prices, or for information about connections and information material or to offer suggestions, the MDV information telephone is available to all passengers from Monday to Friday (7:30 am to 9:00 pm) and from Saturday to Sunday (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) at +49 (0)341 91 35 35 91.
